Luke and I went grocery shopping yesterday, at what is usually my favorite store: Wal-Mart. For a month now I've noticed those reusable grocery bags at the end of the cereal aisle and have thought to myself, "I'm at Wal-Mart so much that I really should get some of those and cut down on the mountain of plastic bags in my pantry." They only cost a dollar so yesterday I decided to get some, and I bought 4.

I get to the checkouts and I do my usual inspection of the cashiers working. I used to work at Wal-Mart and I know some of them and if I'm not in the mood to stand there and talk for half an hour and/or answer personal questions, I just won't go through their line. Luke was getting fussy so I had to pick the shortest line this time, and it just so happens that the most hateful former co-worker of mine was working it. (Shirley, you might know who I'm talking about!)

I didn't have that much stuff so I thought, "Okay, I'll just grin and bear it." All was going well, despite hundreds (maybe millions) of questions about Luke and how long it's been since I've worked at Wal-Mart and what I'm doing now, blah, blah, blah. (Now back to the reusable shopping bags...) She gets to the bags and says hatefully, of course, "Oh. Did you want me to put all this in these?" I told her no, because they were all tethered shut so you can't use them until you buy them and cut the plastic ties off, but she continued to be hateful and act like I was all uppity or something because I want to recycle.

WHATEVER!! I think it's going to take awhile for the whole "green"movement to catch on in MG.

I saw those bags there yesterday, and I think I could almost guess who your cashier was??? hehe! (well, I am thinking of any of 3 right about now).

i bought those bags a while back... working at the news-leader has increased my awareness for recycling and going green. It's so much nicer when you don't have to store mountains of plastic bags.

but yeah, it'll take MG a while to catch on!
